For two decades Rich Halley was the leader of the Lizard Brothers, a sextet that combined traditional and freer musical approaches. The Lizard Brothers can be heard on five recordings on the Nine Winds and Avocet labels released between 1985 and 1999. The Lizard Brothers horn section includes Rich Halley, Michael Vlatkovich, Rob Blakeslee and Troy Grugett. One incarnation of the group included multi reed player Vinny Golia.

Trombonist Michael Vlatkovich was a member of the Lizard Brothers starting in 1996. Michael is also a composer/arranger and in addition to leading his own groups has worked with Bobby Bradford, Vinny Golia and Gerry Hemmingway.

Rob Blakeslee
Rob Blakeslee
Tumpeter Rob Blakeslee played with the Lizard Brothers for over 10 years. In addition to leading his own groups, Rob has performed with Vinny Golia, John Carter, Anthony Braxton and Wayne Horvitz.

Baritone/Alto Saxophonist Troy Grugett was a member of the Lizard Brothers for nearly 10 years. Troy also performs with his own groups including the electric trio Thousand Pieces.

Phil Sparks
Phil Sparks
Phil Sparks played bass in the Lizard Brothers for nearly 20 years. Phil has performed with Julian Priester, Bennie Wallace, Mose Allison and Javon Jackson.


William Thomas was the Lizard Brothers drummer from the outset. William has also worked with Leroy Vinnegar, Alan Silva, Charlie Rouse and Richard "Groove" Holmes.
