The Freedom Tradition Quartet features legendary cornetist Bobby Bradford with Rich Halley, tenor sax; Clyde Reed,
bass; and Carson Halley, drums. This group extends the tradition of the original freedom oriented improvisers into
the present day while retaining the spirit of discovery. Bobby Bradford is one of the original generation of
open structure players from Ornette Coleman's circle. His beautiful sound, imaginative playing and sensitivity in the
group makes him makes him a superb collaborator. Rich has been performing with Bobby Bradford for nearly a decade.
This quartet has released two CD's: "Live at the Penofin Jazz Festival" on Pine Eagle Records and "The Blue Rims" on
Louie Records.

The Rich Halley 4 includes trombonist/composer Michael Vlatkovich; Rich Halley, tenor sax; Clyde Reed, bass; and Carson Halley, drums. This group is dedicated to exploring new musical spaces and approaches using the roots of American and world music as sources. Michael Vlatkovich is an extraordinary improvising trombonist and a fine composer. Rich and Michael have been working together for over ten years. "Requiem for a Pit Viper", the group's first CD on Pine Eagle Records, was on a number of lists of the best recordings of 2011. The band's new CD, "Back from Beyond", will be out in early 2012. |
